The 2024 Heritage Collection 18-Year bourbon is a bit of a landmark for Heaven Hill. Barrels were distilled in December 2005 and spent 18 years aging in Rickhouse 1I.
Key Specifications:
- Proof: 120 (60% ABV)
- Mashbill: 78% corn, 10% rye, 12% malted barley
- Age: 18 years
- Price: $300 MSRP
- Production: 133 barrels, all from the third floor
This small batch uses the Elijah Craig mashbill, so if you like that profile, imagine it at cask strength with a lot more age. The whiskey was produced at Heaven Hill’s Bernheim facility in Louisville.
Tasting Profile:
Nose: Cherry cola and musty oak, plus graham cracker and molasses.
Palate: Charred oak and cooked Morello cherries up front, then some root beer and vanilla extract, with a little bitterness and sourness hanging around.
Finish: Musty oak and tannins that drift into leather and baking chocolate.
Even with that big age statement and proof, some reviewers say the oak and tannins can drown out the fruitier notes. It’s a complex pour, but not exactly an easy sipper—kind of what you’d expect from something this old.
