Behold, ye olde Early Americana
2007-05-14
We're happy to announce that we've completed a new section in Furniture & Decorative Arts, Early Americana and Folk. http://www.collectibledetective.com/s/264/furniture-decorative-arts-early.html In it you'll find some great sites, with wonderful 18th and 19th century painted furniture, handmade accessories and textiles, early folk art portraits, and yellowware.
Having been raised in the heart of Revolutionary War-obsessed New England during the Revolutionary War obsessed 1970s by Revolutionary War-obsessed parents, I haven't had much interest in that particular era as an adult (I know, shocking). However while researching this category I was surprised to discover lots of decorative arts items that I totally loved and would be the perfect accompaniment to my clean-lined, modernist pad — especially bright, geometric rugs, quilts, and the simple designs of pottery like this great item:
To my eye it could be a 1960s Scandinavian piece, but lo and behold, 1780's New York. You learn something new every day.
So this is our new blog. We'll be checking in regularly to let you know what's new on the site, what's going on the events world (send us events news via the Contact page), and to share things we come across that we think are super cool. Like fish flasks that look modern but are early America. Or maybe strange stuffed monkeys.
