New Spanish Colonial Links
2007-11-01

Spanish Colonial art and architecture refers to a style that developed in the Spanish-ruled North and South American colonies during the 16th, 17th, 18th and early part of the 19th century. The hybrid style reflects the solid, simple construction and traditional building materials of the regions' vernacular architecture combined with the imported influence of elaborate, Spanish Baroque style. Spanish Colonial design experienced a revival during the 1920s and 1930s, this time incorporating elements of the Arts & Crafts movement to create a whole new melting pot of American design.
